Psilocybe Galindoi

Psilocybe Galindoi

Among the psychedelic mushrooms, Psilocybe galindoi is one of those which were used in rituals to connect with the spiritual plane and gain the wisdom of the gods. It is one of several magic mushrooms varieties known by Maztecs as teonanacatl, which roughly translates to “flesh of the gods.” This mushroom also became known as P. galindii, in honor of Carlos Galindo Arias who introduced the species to the modern world.

Psilocybe Galindoi Identification

When going out to hunt for P. galindoi, it’s important to check the caps. The caps of P. galindoi are 2cm in diameter, bell-shaped, with a slight protrusion at the center. The color of P. galindoi caps are also highly dependent on the amount of moisture contained inside the mushroom. When moist, it’s brown or yellowish brown but pales to straw when dried.

The gills under the caps are brown to dark purple brown with whitish edges. Attached to the bottom of the cap is the stem, scientifically known as the stipe. This stem grows from 5cm to 6.5cm long and is 1mm to 2mm thick. It’s hollow with a reddish brown hue in the middle, becoming darker towards the base with rhizomorphic strands.

This mushroom produces dark, purple gray spores. It shares the same taste and odor with most magic mushrooms which can only be described as starchy with a strong resemblance to flour.

The psychoactive substances – psilocybin and psilocin – contained in this magic mushroom oxidize. When handled or injured, dark blue bruises appear on the mushroom.

Psilocybe Galindoi Location

When looking for a magic mushroom used in rituals, it’s logical to start your search for P. galindoi where these rituals are practiced – Mexico!

They don’t seem to grow exclusively during any specific season or time of the year but they have been found growing in clusters on elevated areas and in tall grass near forests with pine and oak trees. The exact location is Pie de la Cuesta, Jalisco, Mexico just south of Guadalajara.

  1. galindoi is also one of the magic mushroom species capable of growing sclerotia. Don’t let the fancy name confuse you. Sclerotia is just a formal term for truffles.

The only discernible difference between the fruiting body (mushrooms) and the sclerotia is that the latter grows underground. Therefore, they are nothing more than an identical version of the mushrooms growing above ground. Both contain the hallucinogenic compounds psilocybin, psilocin, and baeocystin. Both mushroom and sclerotia are effective in inducing hallucinations.

There’s no difference between truffles and the mushrooms. They are two parts of the same organism. Some people say sclerotia contain more hallucinogenic substances than their above-ground counterparts but this claim hasn’t been proven.

Psilocybe Galindoi Effects

Both mushrooms and truffles from P. galindoi produce the same effects. The nature of the experience you will have will depend on the dosage, your state of mind, and the environment you’re in.

A normal trip requires 5 to 9 grams of fresh P. galindoi and a strong trip would require 10 to 15 grams. The most efficient way to ingest these truffles is to eat them on an empty stomach. Nausea is a common initial side effect but it subsides in a few minutes.

After ten to sixty minutes, the first effects will start to show. What you perceive through your eyes and your ears will become more intense. Your perception of reality will rapidly change. You will see your body and your environment from a new perspective. This results in hilarious insights and create boisterous laughter. Confusion may also follow when your mind can no longer grasp what is going on. As the outer confusion intensifies, vision become clearer.

Every experience will feel different for each person but there will be similarities. Whether you go on a good trip or a bad trip will depend on your mood or state of mind. The trip will last for 6 hours, coming in waves, and gradually settling down.

It isn’t advisable to take P. galindoi sclerotia two days in a row because your body will develop a tolerance and you may not be able to experience a psychedelic effect. You must wait at least three or four more days before taking P. galindoi again.

Growing P. galindoi magic truffles are more challenging than magic mushrooms. And the process involves three main phases.

Phase 1 – Preparation of Substrate

A substrate is the most important supply to grow magic truffles. This substance provides the nutrients needed to grow the mycelium. Many materials can act as a substrate – from logs to coffee grounds. This technique will focus on using rye berries as substrate.

Procedure:

  1. Brew 2 quarts of coffee.
  2. Heat 2 gallons of water and add the coffee.
  3. Add two teaspoons of gypsum and stir.
  4. Remove debris from the rye by rinsing the grains.
  5. Add the grains into the coffee and water mixture.
  6. Stir the mixture and let it sit for 24 hours.
  7. Boil it again for 10 minutes.
  8. Strain the grains until the surface is completely dry.
  9. Store the mixture in jars.
  10. Cover the lids and put a layer of aluminum on them.
  11. Pressure cook the jars for 90 minutes to sterilize them.
  12. Remove the foil when the jars are room temperature.

Phase 2 – Inoculation with Psilocybe Galindoi

Once you have a spore syringe with P. galindoi, you can proceed with the next steps:

  1. Shake the syringe to break clumps of spores which may have formed.
  2. Press the needle into the jars and inject the spore solution into the substrate jars.

You will see the mycelium colonize the contents of the jar. The truffles will form before the mycelium colonizes the substrate.

Phase 3 – Harvesting the Truffles

In 8 weeks, your truffles will be ready to harvest.

  1. Sterilize a spoon with alcohol.
  2. Remove the substrate and separate it from the truffles.
  3. Clean the truffles with a brush and store them in paper bags.

In two months, you’d have grown Psilocybe galindoi truffles from a spore syringe!
